Further Research Options:

    1. For an-depth and detailed comparative analysis of selected workflow vendors, review the Workflow Comparative Study by industry analyst, Martin Ader

    2. The CDROM companion to the Workflow Handbook 2005 contains a slide presentation providing a very high level overview of a large selection of workflow engines
.  This document presents highlights of main workflow products currently on the market using typical screenshots showing main features of each product. Each product is positioned in the space of a road-highway metaphor (ad-hoc, production etc), together with an idea of its price (if available). Additionally a short rationale for selecting the product is given. For products that appear in the Workflow Comparative Study, a radar chart presents the product scores for each of the 12 criteria that form the reference used to rate products.

3G Interactive, LLC is a global consulting firm headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. From our founding, our focus has been on working with global companies desiring to improve business processes, craft better business strategies, develop new products, enhance customer relationships, enter new markets, or build strong brands.

3G Interactive's Business Process Automation Group helps businesses to leverage the Internet, telecommunications technologies, and workflow applications to better manage how information and knowledge is processed, transferred, and shared within the enterprise. While other solution providers may focus on building a client a "great portal" or an extra/intranet, 3G Interactive strives instead to truly understand the client's problem areas and the impact that they have on the its core business and relationships with its customers. This allows us to recommend the right solution for the customer.

At 3G Interactive, we believe that building from the bottom-up is the only way to get the best return from process improvement dollars. Therefore, the first step is usually a thorough investigation into our client's business processes and if need be a re-mapping of its workflow for the identified problem area(s). Once we have together developed a more effective way of achieving the client's desired results, only then would we recommend an automated solution to further reduce costs and increase productivity.

We analyze, redesign, implement and continuously improve mission-critical decision-processes, giving our customers sustainable competitive advantage in speed. And since time is money, our solution regularly cuts costs to levels that generate ROIs in excess of 100%.

ActionWorks® Product Suite

The ActionWorks® product suite consists of a business process builder, process engine and front-end executive dashboard that includes the following process capabilities:

  •  Process mapping and simulation
  •  Analysis and versioning
  •  Structured and unstructured process management
  •  Business activity monitoring
  •  Business rules engine
  •  Web services
  •  External process collaboration with non-system users
  •  Executive dashboard for real-time monitoring

ActionWorks®, based on our patented ActionWorks® Business Interaction Model, was designed around the way people interact, offering a robust solution for people-to-people process management. When you are engaged in inventive work involving many different skills, such as new product development or high-value customer care, you need the ActionWorks® Business Interaction Model because the processes you are involved in require negotiated commitments among the participants. Business processes in which no decisions are made and in which clerks do repetitive work or machines exchange data never rise to mission critical status. In the end, if it is critical, you need people to plan, decide and act. And, you need to be fast. We’ve helped the largest companies in the world analyze, redesign, implement in software and continuously improve their core business processes to create the speed and agility that creates competitive advantage. We believe we can help your organization, too.

Action serves Fortune 500 companies in the Financial Services and Manufacturing industries. A few of our customers include: Credit Suisse Financial Services, USAA, Salomon, Smith Barney, Swiss Reinsurance, International Truck and Engine (Navistar International), Ford Motor Company, and Lockheed Martin.

Aliroo – Solutions for Workflow Security

Visit:                www.aliroo.com

Call:                 +972-9-7677732

Aliroo offers a comprehensive toolbox of content security solutions for document management and workflow management systems.

The toolbox handles 4 major security threats –
Snooping (by encryption),
Counterfeiting (by digital signatures),
Mishandling (by invisible fingerprinting) and
Copyright Infringement  (by digital leashing of content).

The tools cover all types of content in electronic and printed documents:
files (disk folders, email attachments),
text segments (paragraphs, database record fields),
spreadsheet areas, (columns, rows, rectangles)
digital images, (forensic photographs, Teleradiology, image archives)
scanned documents
paper printouts
, and others.

The threats and documents combine to a coherent matrix of solutions, offering value-added components to any document management or workflow management system.

The most important tool in this matrix for electronic workflow management, is PrivaSeal (text authentication). This is a digital signature tool for Windows documents, offering the strength of tokens and digital certificates, the aesthetics of true-type font human autographs, and the simplicity of OLE objects. See this product in www.aliroo.com/privaseal.

The tools are very intuitive and suitable for any Windows user, and combine the simplicity of Windows operations, the strength of X-509 digital certificates and common hardware tokens, and the aesthetics of the original formatted documents.

The tools, having been specially designed for document security, have the common features of security software (simple, strong and friendly) and enjoy some less common features that are important for practical document management:

     1.  Security is selective - any part of any document can be protected, leaving the other parts free.
2.  Protected documents preserve the format of the original documents - no need to change anything in the document management system or procedures.
3.  The protected document is carrying its protection - protected documents can be exchanged between heterogeneous systems without losing their protection)
4. The encryption strength is adjustable, offering the user an important tradeoff between security and availability of documents, and -
5. The user can be identified by a variety of identifiers, including digital certificates, passwords, and many sorts of tokens.

Aliroo sells some of the tools as end-user products, and offers to license the tools to leading vendors of document management and workflow management systems.

A general description of Aliroo can be found at http://www.aliroo.com/, and specific information. A brief overview of the content security tools can be seen through PowerPoint slide show at www.aliroo.com/webmark  - one can either visit the slides online, or download the source presentation (2 MB) and view it with animation.

LookingGlass – Automated Process Productivity Improvement

Avatar has designed and developed Looking Glass, a relatively new technology providing workflow management and automated value chain management capabilities specifically designed to address the challenges that are posed by service sector business requirements and processes. A system that can bridge multiple legacy business systems, deliver information wherever it is needed, manage processes and people in real time while providing significant performance improvements year after year. Improvements that add dolllars to the bottom line.

LookingGlass is far more than an Automated Workflow System (AWS), it is far more than a Business Performance Management (BPM) system, it is far more than a Management Information System (MIS), and it is far more than a Business Intelligence (BI) system. Why?

1. It incorporates elements of all of these technologies carefully blended to maximize its impact on performance rather than just measuring it
2. It starts out with the ability to manage each individual piece of work, which allows it to influence and analyze performance in ways that BPM, MIS, and BI systems cannot, and
3. It was built not to answer a technological need but to be responsive

to the management requirements that have proven to be so effective in improving performance, such as Six Sigma. Looking Glass proactively manages the workflow, captures and analyzes what is the best practice, documents what is wrong, measures production results and presents them in universal metrics, becomes a data warehouse of performance knowledge that is shared throughout the business enterprise, and in the final analysis saves money, thereby enhancing the bottom line.
LookingGlass increases productivity (typically 20-40% first year, 15-28% second year and double digit returns each year thereafter), shorten cycle-times, improve quality, provide key performance metrics, and enable realtime interactive management of the entire workflow.
From real-time monitors for front line supervisors to executive dashboards for senior management LookingGlass will improve the decision-making effectiveness of the entire management team. And, its unique Process Organizer is the only software that interactively manages how your staff executes their work, providing every employee with the ability to see their work and improve their own performance.

LookingGlass changes the dynamics of performance through its interactions with staff as well as its management facilities. The result is a more empowered and productive staff and interactive tools that increase the effectiveness of every manager. In addition, LookingGlass will help your staff analyze and develop enterprise performance management initiatives that drive effectiveness and increase value for your company.

Due to its functions and architecture, Eventus has the added advantage that it can also play a significant role in the integration of enterprise applications.

Reliable and Scalable
Eventus is a high availability, highly reliable and scalable system, specially designed for use in critical business situations and optimized for a large number of users and customers.

Eventus has numerous built-in capabilities to make it an absolutely reliable solution, even in most complex environments: distributed architecture, data replication (either server by server or by recollection), ‘global server’ feature, fail-safe solutions, etc.

Highly algorithmic
Implementing Eventus has numerous advantages. Firstly, it has a professional closed-loop framework for company workflows and resources. The real increase in efficiency, however, comes from the fact that the maximum numbers of actions are automated: manual tasks are algorithmic, and there is even controlled support for exception handling.

Eventus guarantees that anything for which a rule can be constructed in a human or machine language will be executed according to that rule.

Designed with the user in mind
A key advantage of Eventus is that it improves the efficiency of employees as well as that of the technology. With its ergonomically designed and tested user interface, functions that adjust to both different user roles and experience levels, and accessibility through the Web, Eventus ensures that users can be trained quickly and simply, and that thereafter they can focus on the task at hand at all times.

The Palmtop module, the SMS functionality, the ergonomically designed code systems and search fields, and the menu system specially designed for Eventus: these features are all aimed at providing a system that everybody can use in the most efficient way for them.

International
Eventus has been specially designed for international market and so it naturally includes advanced multi-language support. The application can use several languages, switching between them in run-time, user-by-user.

Hatton Blue are leaders in customer case management systems and have developed and sell VectusTM The product is also badged by Fujitsu ICL as Case Manager Desk Top (CMDT). VectusTM is the effective I.T. solution for businesses seeking case management. The product is particularly suited to professional case workers who wish to retain control over their own work activities, rather than have work pushed to them by fixed and rigid 'workflow' systems. Existing bank, government and law firm customers have reported startling successes in achieving their business aims. Applications, developed in only a few weeks, have increased productivity by over 150 percent.

Case Management Concept
Organizations traditionally adopted the Adam Smith paradigm where division of labor increased productivity by dividing work into piecemeal chunks. With customers becoming ever more demanding, competition intensifying and rapid change becoming a way of life, businesses today are finding this way of working too restrictive. The case management approach employed by VectusTM means a firm's workers are equipped to take control and responsibility for the whole of the customer process; from request right through to fulfillment.

VectusTM
The system consists of a number of user interface screens which provide users with the facilities required to undertake the work at hand. The main view for the user is based on a diary system and users are presented with a screen containing activities to be completed on any day classified under three different headings; Actions, Checks (quality samples for example) and Chases (tasks awaiting external events). There is also a header bar which may be tailored to accommodate any information for the case. Cases may be searched for on any field, tailorable for any situation. Each 'Activity' in the case is described, along with its the own definition of pre and post conditions, the data to be captured from the user, documents produced and even the accounting transactions which are expected. As work is completed, the system evaluates all other work in the case identifying which tasks to activate. Each case may have any number of 'Filenotes' (title and text as well as other files - word documents, images, sound etc.).

Rules Definition
Business rules for the process are prescribed by the process definer layer and this environment is specifically designed for the non-programmer to define the business rules without need to recourse to hard-coding. Alternatively the developer might build up the order of Activities using process modeling tools. In many cases the system is generated using a mixture of both environments.

The object oriented nature of VectusTM allows more flexibility than most 'workflow' systems as tasks do not necessarily need to be completed in any particular order, but will have attributes which dictate which tasks must have been completed and those which must follow. The approach taken is not so much a software system used for routing purposes, but an application shell which incorporates process support for the knowledge worker acting on his or her initiative. VectusTM provides the developer with ways of structuring their Activities into 'flows' to reflect working practices.

The system also incorporates a concept known as 'Milestones'. Milestones group Activities together to represent the major phases of work. The milestone activity co-ordinates the preceding activities to ensure all that must have been actioned have been completed.

Integration
The product is built on a three layer architecture allowing complete database and system independence, with integration capabilities to external email, fax and scheduling such as Microsoft Schedule+. There is also a published set of API's.

VectusTM provides capabilities to capture the financial transactions which may take place within a case. The approach is one of setting up each case with its own account(s). As transactions occur during the process the Account is modified accordingly. This approach is designed to facilitate integration with accounting systems.

Product(s): ProcessFlo

ProcessFlo is a multimedia workflow and document management system that combines document imaging, digitized voice, text, data, and hard copy paperwork management functions with extensive business process reengineering tools. In addition, the system is designed to facilitate customization, extension, and integration with legacy systems and other applications. Incorporating both graphical and table driven set-up tools, ProcessFlo allows a complete application to be defined and implemented on a rapid prototype basis in hours with no custom code. The system accommodates both passive (next step controlled by soft ware) and active (next step controlled by user) work methods and allows routing to any combination of person, work group, and step (as opposed to hierarchical user within role within activity routing). Work can be organized according to either a one-queue/one-worker model, a one-queue/many-workers model, or a mixture of the two models. Object-oriented design is at the heart of ProcessFlo.
